| 2 November 2025 | First upload of a collection of Mike Basman's games. There are 1,232 game entries of which 16 are part-games, 25 are stubs and 3 are problems which Basman composed in his early teens and which were published in the Evening News in CHO'D Alexander's column. I am grateful to Gerard Welling for sending me a substantial tranche of games which Mike Basman had shared with him previously. Note that many of the more recent games were played in rapidplay competitions, where Basman would make a note of the opening moves until shortage of time made it unfeasible. Mike would often attempt to reconstruct the score later or else leave it incomplete, sometimes minus data such as the result or opponent's name. Hence these scores may not always be entirely reliable, but given the abiding interest in Basman's opening play they are worth including. I am also grateful to Antranig Basman who has uploaded much of his father's Audio Chess catalogue to YouTube (link above): this is a hugely valuable archive of material. Also above is a list of tournaments and matches in which Mike Basman took part - this is a long way short of being complete but I didn't want to delay the publication of the PGN file any longer. I shall be updating the list in due course. |
