"Oxford defeated Cambridge in the annual Varsity match held March 7 at the RAC Club in Pall Mall, London. The event is supported, appropriately, by The Brain Trust Charity and author and lecturer on the brain Tony Buzan who has pledged his continued support for the event for the next decade. Oxford, slight favourites on paper, avenged their defeat of last year with an exciting 5-3 victory. The overall scores are now Cambridge 50 Oxford 49 with 17 matches drawn." (CHESS, May 1998, p17)
