Northumberland — The top event at the Greenall-Cambrian Killingworth Congress on North Tyneside, May 26-29, was the Northumberland Weekend International. Two British Championship places at Plymouth were on offer, writes Simon Gillam, and Sunderland's David Walker scored 6(7) to take clear first place. Five players tied on 5 points: G. Morrison, Edinburgh, J. Simpson, Seaham, T. Wall, Killingworth, J. Grant, Edinburgh, and A. Lawson, Newcastle. As Walker and Wall have already qualified for the 'British', the two places go to Simpson and Grant. Top players lower down the field included Colin Crouch and Andrew Ledger.
The second section was won by T. H. George from as far away as Cornwall! He took home £100 for his 5(6) score. The same reward went to Stanley Hawes, South Shields, 5½(6) in the Intermediate.
