(Text of Tournament Bulletin)

This tournament, held at the Graduate Society offices, Cambridge, at the invitation of the University Chess Club, was organised for training prior to the Anglo-Dutch match.

The top section of the tournament provided chess of a high standard - witness the difficulties experienced by the visiting Dutch grandmaster, J.H. Donner.

Sponsorship of the tournament was by the 'Friends of Chess' and the University chess club.

The tournament was slightly marred by defaults in round two, by Bellin and Blackstock, who, it seems, failed to awake from their slumbers in time to beat the clock (the round started at the unearthly hour of 2 p.m.).

Otherwise, the tournament ran surprisingly well, considering the short time in which it was organised. Credit for this must go largely to the secretary, R.D. Keene, and the control team, R.F.G. Kneebone, A.G. Trangmar, & R. Webb.

Finally, I would like to congratulate the section winners and thank all the players for their co-operation with the control team.

N.J. Holloway (chief controller)
